The newest enhancement to the MyShake app is a feature called HomeBase. It allows users to set a default location where they can receive earthquake early warning alerts, even if location services are temporarily down or turned off.

Your device becomes an earthquake sensor and joins a smartphone network collecting valuable data. Data collected is anonymous and your location used by the app is in a 10 mile square around you.

When your phone is stationary, MyShake is ready to collect data from its motion sensors. MyShake uses a neural network to decide which motion is produced by earthquakes and which isn’t. When MyShake detects an earthquake, its network of phones records the shaking to collect valuable data.
